National Promises

The National Party has always said it would abolish the Maori Seats in parliament. If they become Government. The time frame 2010 then 2014. Now John Keys is saying only when the Maori Land settlement process has been completed. That is the same as saying never. As he fully knows the Maori land settlement process will unlikly finish without a firm date. They also said they would have a referendum on MMP when they are Government. This also looks to be put aside as National gets closer to the election. Its a political fact that National will need the Maori Party as a likely coalition partner. Hence the Maori seats change of heart, To have the Maori Party as a likely coalition partner they must have MMP. The National Party is now reneging on it's promises to New Zealand for the sack of power. Disappointing considering they held so much promise, on these promises.

National Party Rumours

National Party Rumours TDN 23/07/07 Labour will get rid of Harry.
New Plymouth without Harry, would be like Labour without Helen. The only time Harry will stop serving the New Plymouth electorate as Labours New Plymouth candidate, will and only be when Helen stops being the Prime Minister and her Labour party is defeated. Or unless Peter decides he's had enough of being Mayor of New Plymouth and run as an opposition's candidate. Looking at who's on the local New Plymouth National Party hierarchy it want be National anytime soon. It would be better for the local National charter to concentrate on the party vote, something they can achieve by having a list MP. And not waste their party supporters time and votes on a local National constituent candidate.
